Nowhere To Hide

For any other position on the field, mistakes are forgotten almost instantly: as a striker or a midfielder, it’s your successes that are celebrated while all the times you missed the back of the net are forgotten. Even defenders are permitted the odd poor decision without being punished too heavily. But for the #1, there is no forgetting and no grey area – either you are the hero or the villain of the match and if the latter, there’s no escape.

Bayern’s offence squandered one goal scoring opportunity after another against Madrid’s shaky defence (with credit to Navas for coming up with some key saves to keep his side in the game). Bayern failed to win on multiple occasions – Ulreich made one mistake and lost the game.

Keeper is the hardest position on the field and there’s nothing that shows it better than this shot of Bayern’s #1 after the final whistle.
